A company with a lineage dating to Paul Revere has opened a factory in Mebane. While the Revere Copper Products, Inc. hasn’t made a big announcement of its addition of a Mebane facility, the company is advertising for employment at its Mebane plant.
The company’s website carries a rather understated note about its new Mebane location: “After 222 years, America’s oldest copper mill has arrived in Mebane, NC with a new plant and immediate employment opportunities.”
The company’s history, now centered on copper, is tied to Paul Revere, a Boston silversmith, engraver, early industrialist, and participant in the American Revolution.
The company is occupying the former Prescient manufacturing facility at 2125 Sen. Ralph Scott Parkway in the Hawfields area industrial park. Prescient is one of the few companies to leave Mebane in recent years.
Revere Copper is headquartered in Rome, New York. It describes itself as an employee-owned company that serves the architectural, electrical, telecommunications, air conditioning, industrial machinery and equipment markets. Among its products are coil, strip, sheet, and plate forms of copper and copper alloy.
The company is advertising for a “team leader/supervisor,” “production team member,” and “electrician.”
Prescient used computer-aided design and prefabricated steel trusses, columns, and panels to build turnkey framing for multistory housing and commercial facilities.
The company had opened an $18.8 million, 135,000-square foot facility at 2125 Senator Ralph Scott Parkway in the spring of 2017 and announced around the same time that it would move its corporate headquarters from Arvada, Colorado to downtown Durham.
Prescient later temporarily moved its headquarters to the NCCP after an explosion destroyed its building in downtown Durham in April 2019, Prescient chief marketing officer Rich Pond said at the time in an interview with The Alamance News. The company subsequently relocated its corporate headquarters to Charlotte, according to a press release on its website.
But last year, the company filed a “Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification” (WARN notice) with the state commerce department, announcing its intention to close its facility at the North Carolina Commerce Park (NCCP); federal law requires businesses with at least 100 full-time employees to provide 60 days’ notice of any planned closure that will result in mass layoffs.
